Tarnival Event Interest Form For Schools

The Tarnival Event was created through a grant from the California Department of Public Health. Building on the expertise in science outreach at the Lawrence Hall of Science, the Event is designed to go to schools and community gatherings.

Bringing the Tarnival Festival and Theater Event to your school:

If you are interested in having the Tarnival Event come to your school, please read the next few paragraphs carefully. If you are still interested, you may let us know that by filling out the form at the bottom of the page. Some one from the Tarnival staff will then get in touch with you to make an Event booking.

Requirements for the Tarnival Event - Please Read Carefully:

Outdoors Only. The Tarnival Event is designed to take place outdoors. We will only come to do an Event if there is sufficient outdoor space for the Event to take place outdoors.
We'll Need Space!

* The theatre is designed to be performed outdoors in a space 17 feet high, by 25 feet wide and 35 feet deep. We bring a limited amount of carpet and pillows for audience members to sit down, with an expectation of either a large group standing for the show or additional outdoor seating (bleachers, etc) being available at the site. Due to the nature of the performance ( stilt walkers, paper mache scenic elements) rain cancels the theatrical portion of Tarnival.

* The festival can be held indoors or out. The activities are housed in 6 separate tents which are 15 feet high and have a footprint of 10 feet by 10 feet. Additionally there are 2 visual display areas that are 6.5 feet in height and have a triangular footprint of 30" x 30" x 30".

* Access to the website will be provided on a computer brought with the Festival. It is also available online, and we encourage the use of schools computer labs for continued exploration of the site.

Electricity & Water Both the theatre and the festival need to be located within 150 feet of an electrical outlet.
Alameda & San Francisco Counties Only. During Spring 2002, Tarnival is available on a limited basis to schools in Alameda and San Francisco counties. The spring tour will take place in schools on Tuesdays and Fridays from mid-April through mid-June.

A second tour in the fall of 2002 is available to schools throughout the Greater San Francisco Bay Area. If your school is not located in Alameda or San Francisco counties and you send this form in to us, we will place you on a list to be contacted when we are able to visit your county.

Events will be scheduled up to one month prior to the date of performance.

If You Help, It's Free! There is no charge for the Tarnival! Event to come to your school. However, we still require an investment from you. You must be willing to run a pre-visit evaluation, a post-visit evaluation, and a follow-up evaluation about the Event.
How Many Students?

The show is 35 minutes long and if desired, can be followed by a discussion between the students and the actors. Each performance can accommodate an audience of up to 350 people.

The festival is best when limited to 150 students per 50 minute session.

We feel the greatest educational impact is obtained when students interact with both elements, but it is possible to book them separately.
